About the artist…

Hi, I’m Amelia, and I’m so glad you’ve come to have a look at my artwork.

I have found that art is a place for me to play around when everyday life is dull, or to impose rhythm and order when I feel overwhelmed by chaos.

I hope that you will find something here that makes you feel happy, calm, and hopeful.

Subjects

At the very least, I hope you will be surprised. I find that I surprise myself quite regularly when I’m drawing or painting. I never stay on one subject for too long. I love anything connect to nature, like rocks and bugs and leaves, but I also enjoy playing with geometric shapes so my ruler and compass are never very far from my desk.

Materials

Speaking of my desk, you will usually find it stacked with watercolour paper, gouache paints, and bottles of ink, but I’m also very interested in using digital tools to create patterns, collages and repetition from my paper creations.

Clients and projects

My journey as a grown-up artist started when I needed images for my parenting blog. Stock photography wasn’t the best way to represent families, because I didn’t want to single out any one gender, race, or class. I found that drawing animals helped to convey the ideas with  more emotion, and fewer stereotypes.

I expanding by creating images for other websites, then I was invited to create more and more portraits of  families, homes, and pets. I’ve dabbled in some children’s book illustration as well, and I hope to illustrate a book of my own soon.

Thank you and have fun looking around!
